Are You Driving Through Life With the Brakes On?
- Carol Robinson
How Excuses Can Delay Your Progress (and What to Do Instead)
🧠 The Wake-Up Quote That Hit Hard
"Someone once told me the definition of Hell: The last day you have on earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become." – Anon
A business mentor recently shared this quote and called it “nasty.”
I couldn’t agree more.
It’s a powerful reminder that time waits for no one, and if we keep holding back — making excuses, waiting for the “perfect” time — we risk never stepping into the full version of who we’re meant to be.
Another mentor said:
"Stop driving with the brakes on."
Oof. Another truth bomb.
These aren’t just quotes to post and scroll past — they’re calls to action. Because inspiration without action leads nowhere.
💬 Why We Make Excuses (Even When We Want Change)
If you’re someone who wants change but keeps getting stuck — you’re not alone.
We often make excuses because:
We fear failure
We don’t want to feel uncomfortable
We’ve been burned by past attempts
We lack accountability and structure
The truth? Excuses are just fear in disguise.
💪 My Own Turning Point
Since becoming a qualified Personal Trainer, I’ve noticed a shift in both myself and the fitness industry.
My interest in fitness has grown… but more importantly, I’ve seen a space that’s not being filled:
🟡 Support for midlife women who are navigating real-life change and just want to feel good in their bodies again — without the guilt, extremes, or unrealistic expectations.
🌸 Midlife Isn’t a Setback — It’s a Shift
Midlife comes with real physical and emotional changes. When ignored, feelings of frustration and disconnection can arise. But when honoured? They become a foundation for true strength.
Here are just a few changes midlife women experience:
Body composition shifts (fat storage, muscle tone)
Hormonal changes (hello, perimenopause)
Fluctuating energy, sleep, and motivation
Changing roles (career, family, identity)
When we resist these changes, we suffer.
When we embrace them, we grow.
🧘♀️ What You Need Is Support That Understands This Season
This is where so many fitness programs fall short — they’re not built for women in this life stage.
What we need is:
✔ Gentle accountability
✔ Realistic workouts (not punishment)
✔ Tools to build consistency and confidence
✔ Permission to go at your own pace
